The hunt for the perfect name

When we were expecting Hayden, Ryan wanted to wait until Hayden was born before we fully decided on a name to make sure it fit him. But since we didn’t have any other boy names we’d chosen (we’re saving Benjamin for our next son), nothing else seemed more appropriate than Hayden.

We also have girls’ names picked out: Rebecca and Rachel. Ryan has apparently recovered from his earlier reservation, since he’s already okay with calling this baby Rebecca. Meanwhile, I’m still getting used to calling her ‘her.’

But with Hayden we had a pretty obvious middle name choice. With Rebecca, we’re a little stuck on her middle name. Any thoughts?

A nice simple middle name that doesn’t sound funny with any of the Rebecca nicknames (Becky, Becca, etc)… I’m very partial to the Biblical names myself, what about Leah or Tamar…?

How about Eleanor? 🙂 It worked for us!

Do you have any family names that would be nice as a middle name? My son’s middle name is the same as my husband’s middle name and if we have a girl someday her middle name will come from my grandmother’s name.

By the way, great choice with the name Benjamin. That’s my son’s name too!

Rebecca is a family name (it’s my middle name), so we kind of have that base covered IMO. There are candidates from family names, but . . . sigh. . . . it’s a long story. I’m not overly attached to “family” names because I have several hundred thousand “family” names to choose from. (My dad and maternal grandparents work very hard on family history.) Basically, if I like a name, chances are very good that I can find it in our family tree.

My daughter is Rebecca Danielle. I don’t know that it matters what you pick as long as it has two syllables. I don’t think you want three. A 3-syllable first name followed by a 2-syllable middle name sounds best. Just for variety!

    How about Rebecca Lee?
Just feels like it needs to be something short in the middle there
The risk of course is that if she has a short middle name, people will call her by her short middle name rather than the longer ‘Rebecca’…
My preference, of course, goes for the name ‘Abigail’…
    I’ll keep thinking!!!
